Hollywood icon Kim Cattrall, best known for her fearless role as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, has revealed how drastically her life has changed since leaving the hit series behind.
In an interview with People magazine, the Canadian actress shared that life after Sex and the City is refreshingly calm and centered around personal peace. “Every day is a little bit different,” Cattrall said, describing her serene life on Vancouver Island.
“I have a home on Vancouver Island, which is my hideaway and basically my paradise because I’m right in the middle of nature,” she explained. “It’s long walks, reading books I’ve never had time to read or reread. I love women’s fiction. It’s more solitary—just me and my partner, Russell Thomas.”
Despite stepping away from the glitz of Hollywood, Cattrall said she still feels deeply connected to the cities that shaped her. “I also spend time in London, where I’ve been for the last 15, 20 years,” she noted. “And then there’s New York City, which will always be in my heart.”
Reflecting on her career evolution, Cattrall shared that her sense of identity has shifted in recent years. “I think it defines me less,” she said. “Kim has taken over—not the characters she’s played. The last 10 years have been about exploring me, my choices, and my life beyond acting.”
The 68-year-old actress, who portrayed the iconic and unapologetic Samantha Jones, now focuses on living life at her own pace, embracing tranquility over red carpets.
‘Sex and the City’ Legacy
The groundbreaking series, Sex and the City, followed four women—Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon)—as they navigated careers, friendships, and love in New York City.
More than two decades later, Cattrall’s portrayal of Samantha remains one of television’s most celebrated female characters—bold, empowering, and unapologetically real. But for Cattrall herself, peace, privacy, and self-discovery have become the real luxuries of life after fame.
