A Paris court awarded Kim Kardashian and her friend Simone Harouche €1 each after the 2016 armed robbery in which Kardashian was held at gunpoint.
A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian €1 (around $1.15) in damages over the 2016 armed robbery in which she was held at gunpoint and robbed of millions of dollars’ worth of jewellery.
A lawyer involved in the case confirmed the amount to the Associated Press on Tuesday, September 15, saying it was the exact sum Kardashian, 45, had requested during her testimony at the criminal trial earlier this year.
Kardashian’s childhood friend Simone Harouche, who was downstairs at the No Address Hotel when the robbery occurred, was also awarded €1 after requesting the same symbolic amount.
Following the ruling, Kardashian and Harouche issued a joint statement to PEOPLE expressing gratitude to the French justice system for recognising them as victims of the 2016 incident.
The pair said the experience had been deeply traumatic and that its effects had remained with them. They stressed that the decision was about accountability and recognition rather than financial compensation.
Other victims receive damages
The court awarded substantially higher amounts to two other parties involved in the case.
A former hotel receptionist who said the robbery left him traumatised was awarded $126,472, while the hotel itself received $57,741.
The robbery took place on October 3, 2016, when five masked men, some reportedly dressed as police officers, entered Kardashian’s hotel room while she was alone.
The attackers held her at gunpoint, bound and gagged her and placed her in a bathtub before fleeing with millions of dollars in jewellery.
According to a source close to Kardashian, she managed to free her hands from plastic ties and ran to Harouche’s room to seek help.
Millions of dollars in jewellery stolen
Among the items stolen were a $4 million ring given to Kardashian by her then-husband Kanye West, two diamond Cartier bracelets, a gold-and-diamond Jacob necklace, Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and a gold Rolex.
Much of the stolen jewellery has never been recovered.
French authorities arrested 17 people in connection with the robbery by January 2017. After years of delays, 10 defendants eventually stood trial. French media referred to the group, most of whom were older men with previous criminal records, as the “Grandpa robbers”.
During her testimony in May 2025, Kardashian told the court that she “absolutely did think I was gonna die” during the ordeal.
She later discussed the case on The Kardashians, explaining that she deliberately wore an all-black outfit with diamonds when attending court because she wanted to taunt those responsible for the robbery.
Eight defendants convicted
Eight defendants were ultimately convicted on charges related to the robbery, while two were acquitted. None of those convicted will serve additional prison time because of time already served.
Following the verdict, Kardashian thanked French authorities for pursuing justice and described the robbery as the most terrifying experience of her life.
She said the crime had left a lasting impact on her and her family, while expressing support for accountability, healing and a fair legal system.
