Kim Kardashian reveals why Harry and Meghan removed party photos after backlash

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly backtracked after initially giving permission for photos from Kris Jenner’s birthday celebration to be shared on social media, according to Kim Kardashian.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex faced criticism after attending Kris Jenner’s James Bond-themed 70th birthday party at Jeff Bezos’s mansion in November, which coincided with the U.K.’s Remembrance Day weekend. Kim Kardashian later posted photos showing the royal couple mingling with guests, but the images were quickly deleted, sparking widespread speculation online.

Addressing the controversy for the first time, Kardashian, 44, said the Sussexes had originally approved the social media post before reconsidering. Speaking on her sister’s Khloe in Wonderland podcast, the SKIMS founder explained that the couple later realized the timing of the party conflicted with Remembrance Day observances.

“We were told that it was totally fine to post,” Kardashian said. “After it went up, I think they realised it was Remembrance Day and didn’t want to be seen at a party. Once they thought it through, they felt it was a mistake.”

Kardashian clarified that Harry and Meghan’s attendance at the Baby2Baby Gala earlier the same evening was not viewed as problematic. However, she suggested that images showing them partying and dancing were seen as inappropriate given the significance of Remembrance Day.

Out of respect, Kardashian said the photos were removed shortly after being posted.

Remembrance Day is observed annually in the United Kingdom to honour fallen members of the armed forces, with senior members of the royal family traditionally attending solemn commemorative events.
