Power Minister Awais Leghari announces relief for electricity consumers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with transformer-based load management planned to replace feeder-wide shutdowns.

Islamabad, November 3, 2026: The federal government has agreed to reduce the duration of electricity load shedding in high-loss areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to provide relief to consumers facing prolonged power outages.

The decision was taken during a high-level consultative meeting at the Power Division on Tuesday, following special directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and the Federal Minister for Petroleum discussed sustainable measures to address the province’s energy challenges.

The meeting was attended by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Secretary Power Division, Secretary Petroleum, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Energy and KP Chief Secretary.

Governor Kundi highlighted electricity supply issues across the province and called for a meaningful reduction in load shedding, particularly in high-loss and severely affected areas.

Responding to the request, Leghari agreed to extend electricity supply hours in these areas as a goodwill gesture. The federal leadership also urged consumers to clear outstanding electricity bills and help prevent power theft to ensure sustainable improvements.

The meeting was informed that the Transformer-Based Load Management System (APMS) was being implemented across KP. Under the automated system, conventional feeder-wide shutdowns will gradually be replaced by load management at individual transformer levels.

The federal and provincial governments agreed to maintain close coordination to implement the agreed roadmap and ensure lasting improvements in electricity supply across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
