Peshawar, October 28, 2024 – In a landmark move to enhance transparency and streamline access to land records, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, announced the launch of the electronic “Jaidad [immovable property] Card” on Monday.
This initiative forms part of the broader land record reform efforts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), utilizing cutting-edge technology to empower citizens with secure, efficient access to their property records.
The Jaidad Card, functioning as a digital passbook for immovable property records, will be introduced initially in the merged districts. This card will allow citizens to access their land information simply by scanning a QR code on the card via a smartphone. With this e-card system, the provincial government aims to prevent manipulation of land records, minimize property disputes, and provide convenient, reliable access to verified land data.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, chaired by Gandapur, and attended by Provincial Revenue Minister Nazir Abbasi, Additional Chief Secretaries Muhammad Abid Majeed and Ikramullah Khan, and Senior Member of the Board of Revenue Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah, along with other senior officials.
During the meeting, officials detailed the features of the Jaidad Card, underscoring its role in eliminating tampering and ensuring property security. The electronic card will store comprehensive land information for each property owner, accessible via a mobile app, which will further facilitate property verification processes. This feature will allow cardholders to easily confirm the authenticity of their land details, providing a new level of security for property owners.
Chief Minister Gandapur lauded the initiative as a revolutionary step in the province’s revenue reforms, reflecting the government’s commitment to leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance transparency and citizen convenience. He emphasized that the provincial government is dedicated to using ICT innovations to tackle longstanding issues in the land management system, making records transparent and tamper-proof.
In addition to providing citizens with seamless access to land records, the Jaidad Card is expected to play a crucial role in resolving property disputes, which are often exacerbated by inaccessible or tampered records. This reform not only promises administrative ease but also paves the way for increased public trust in property registration and ownership verification processes.
Gandapur directed relevant authorities to expedite the formal rollout of the Jaidad Card, ensuring citizens can avail themselves of this modern, secure facility promptly. This pioneering approach in KP’s land reforms aims to establish a framework for secure, accessible property management that could serve as a model for other provinces.
