Karachi, June 19, 2025 – The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have reaffirmed their commitment to closely collaborate in streamlining trade operations and boosting investment in Pakistan’s maritime and business sectors.

This renewed partnership was solidified during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday, where a 35-member delegation from KCCI, led by Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala and KCCI President Jawaid Bilwani, visited KPT on the invitation of the KPT Board of Trustees and the Transition Management Committee (TMC). The session aimed to align strategies for enhancing the role of Karachi Port as a major regional trade and maritime hub.

Chaired by KPT TMC members Abdullah Zaki and Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, the meeting was attended by senior management officials of KPT and key representatives from KCCI. The discussions centered on policy evolution, infrastructure upgrades, and improved coordination to facilitate smoother port logistics and commercial activities.

During the session, KPT briefed the KCCI delegation on ongoing and upcoming projects, including improvements under the Export Finance Scheme and long-term infrastructure plans designed to bolster trade efficiency. KPT officials highlighted their commitment to modernizing port facilities and reducing procedural delays to attract greater volumes of cargo and investment.

KCCI, in turn, shared practical feedback and proposals to further enhance the competitiveness of Karachi Port. Emphasis was placed on removing logistical bottlenecks, adopting digital solutions for documentation, and fostering a business-friendly environment conducive to trade expansion.

The KPT leadership appreciated the proactive role of KCCI in advocating for the business community and acknowledged its contributions toward strengthening Pakistan’s trade framework. Both institutions agreed to establish a continuous engagement mechanism for regular feedback and collaboration.

The meeting concluded with a strong consensus on leveraging the combined strengths of KPT and KCCI to increase trade flows, attract investment, and position Karachi as a leading maritime gateway in the region. This strategic partnership is expected to bring long-term gains for Pakistan’s economy through enhanced port efficiency and industrial growth.
