The index opened strong and quickly gained momentum, even triggering a temporary market halt after surging over 8.7% during the session. The rally marks one of the largest single-day gains in recent months, signaling a powerful rebound after weeks of market pressure.

Market analysts at Arif Habib Limited attributed the surge to a Pakistan-facilitated diplomatic breakthrough, where a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran helped ease global uncertainty. The reduction in geopolitical risk triggered a broad-based rally in equities while pushing oil prices lower, improving Pakistan’s economic outlook.

The ceasefire has opened a diplomatic window, with further negotiations expected to take place in Islamabad on April 10, positioning Pakistan as a key mediator in the ongoing situation.

Analysts noted that the PSX had previously undergone a sharp correction of nearly 10% since late February, making valuations attractive for investors. As a result, heavyweights such as NBP, OGDC, PPL, FFC, LUCK, HUBC, and PSO have now become focal points for market recovery, while ATRL remained relatively resilient.

Global markets also responded positively, with major indices rallying across the United States, Asia, and Europe. Futures of the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq showed strong gains, while Asian markets like Japan’s Nikkei and South Korea’s Kospi surged significantly.

Experts believe the continuation of the ceasefire could sustain bullish momentum, though risks remain if tensions resurface.
