Liverpool head coach Arne Slot confirmed on Thursday that the club has reached an agreement with Italian side Parma for the signing of young defender Giovanni Leoni.

The highly-rated 18-year-old, who has already made 17 league appearances in Serie A, is set to join Liverpool for a reported fee of around 30 million U.S. dollars. Slot, while speaking at his pre-match press conference, emphasized that the move is close but not yet finalized.

“The clubs have agreed a deal, but he hasn’t signed for us yet,” Slot explained. “Once he signs for Liverpool, I can provide more details. For now, we are waiting for everything to be completed.”

Leoni’s arrival would represent another step in Liverpool’s plan to strengthen their defensive options for the upcoming season, adding youthful energy and long-term potential to the squad. The move also highlights the club’s commitment to building a balanced team under Slot’s leadership.

When asked about reported interest in England international Marc Guehi, Slot quickly clarified the situation. “Guehi is not our player. Unfortunately, he was the captain of the team that beat Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield last Sunday. If you have questions about him, you should speak to Crystal Palace and their coach Oliver Glasner.”

With the Leoni deal nearing completion, Liverpool supporters will be eager to see the teenager make his mark at Anfield in the near future.
