Global pop sensation Lorde has stunned fans by announcing her long-awaited return to music with a brand-new album titled Virgin.
The 28-year-old artist broke her silence on Wednesday, April 30th, via Instagram, unveiling the album’s cover art and its title in a bold and mysterious caption.
After an extended hiatus, Lorde is officially back, and the excitement among her followers is palpable. Alongside the Instagram post, she also shared a link to her website via Instagram Stories, which confirmed that Virgin will be released on June 27, 2025. This marks her first full-length project since 2021’s Solar Power.
In a raw and poetic teaser, Lorde described Virgin as being “100% written in blood,” hinting at deeply personal themes and emotional storytelling. The album consists of 11 tracks, including the newly released single, What Was That, which debuted during a surprise fan gathering.
Virgin boasts a stellar lineup of collaborators. The record was co-written with Grammy-winning producer Dan Nigro, as well as Devonte Hynes of Blood Orange, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, and Buddy Ross. The production is led by Lorde herself alongside Jim-E Stack, who has previously worked with artists like Bon Iver and Caroline Polachek.
Leading up to the announcement, Lorde hosted a spontaneous and intimate concert at Washington Square Park in New York City on April 23rd. The surprise event drew fans from all over, where she premiered What Was That live and sang it along with the crowd. Footage from the pop-up event is featured in the music video for the track, capturing the raw energy and connection between the artist and her fans.
