With an ambitious target of Rs400 billion set for June alone, insiders at LTO Karachi are confident that total receipts will catapult past Rs3.2 trillion — rewriting the record books.
Often dubbed the “mini-FBR”, LTO Karachi is the country’s most powerful tax collection machine, wielding jurisdiction over major corporations and shaping both tax enforcement and policy. This meteoric rise in revenue reinforces its title as the crown jewel of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
A closer look at the numbers reveals that income tax remains the dominant driver of this tax bonanza. A colossal Rs1.49 trillion has been collected in income tax alone — a 28% rise from Rs1.17 trillion in the corresponding months of the last fiscal year.
Not far behind, sales tax collections skyrocketed by 22%, reaching a formidable Rs1.12 trillion. Meanwhile, federal excise duty brought in an eye-popping Rs193 billion — a thunderous 58% increase from last year’s Rs123 billion.
