Erling Haaland calls for unity and positivity as Manchester City challenge the independent commission’s findings ahead of their crucial Liverpool clash.
Manchester City have appealed against the independent commission’s verdict that found the club guilty of more than 100 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations. The club has rejected the findings and argued that the decision contains significant errors involving law, principle and fact.
Amid the ongoing off-field controversy, City striker Erling Haaland has called on supporters to remain united and positive. The Norway international made his first public comments since the verdict as the club prepares for a high-profile Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield.
Haaland stressed the importance of standing together during a difficult period for the club. He urged supporters and players to maintain a positive outlook, focus on football and continue enjoying the team’s campaign despite the legal and financial dispute surrounding Manchester City.
The independent commission’s findings alleged that City used what it described as sham commercial agreements involving several partners. According to the commission, the arrangements formed part of a disguised funding structure that artificially increased the club’s reported revenues while reducing its costs by more than £900 million.
The allegations cover a period of almost 10 years and represent one of the most significant financial cases in Premier League history. Manchester City, however, are challenging the findings through their appeal.
Haaland also highlighted his strong connection with Manchester City and the United Kingdom. The striker, whose father Alf-Inge previously played for the club, said he cares deeply about the team and its supporters and considers himself a fan as well as a player.
Attention will now turn to Sunday’s meeting with Liverpool, with City taking a three-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table into the fixture.
The contest carries additional significance because of the intense rivalry developed between the two clubs during Pep Guardiola’s managerial battles with former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Haaland acknowledged the special nature of facing Liverpool, recalling the memorable encounters he watched before joining City. His own record at Anfield includes a win, a draw and a defeat, underlining the competitive nature of the fixture.
With the legal dispute continuing away from the pitch, Manchester City will look to keep their focus on maintaining their Premier League campaign when they face Liverpool.
