Karachi, January 26, 2026 — Mari Energies Limited on Monday announced a significant gas discovery in the Dera Bugti District of Balochistan, marking a positive development for Pakistan’s upstream energy sector.

In a notification submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company confirmed that the discovery was made at the Tibri-1 exploratory well, drilled in the Kalchas South Block located in Dera Bugti. The Kalchas South Block is operated by United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL), which holds a 46 percent working interest, while Mari Energies Limited owns 44 percent, and Dewan Petroleum (Pvt.) Limited (DPL) retains the remaining 10 percent working interest.

Tibri-1 is the first exploratory well drilled in the Kalchas South Block. The well was spudded on November 11, 2025, and successfully drilled to a total depth of 7,170 feet.

Initial well testing of the Dunghan/Sui Main Limestone (SML) formation delivered encouraging results. The well flowed 11 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas at a 64/64-inch choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 561 psig, and 6.5 MMSCFD of gas at a 32/64-inch choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,161 psig. Further testing and evaluation are currently in progress to assess the well’s full production potential.

The company noted that exploration in the area had remained inactive for an extended period due to security challenges. However, after the joint venture acquired additional working interest from DPL in July 2023, exploration activities were resumed, leading to the Tibri-1 gas discovery.

This discovery highlights the joint venture’s continued commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon resources and enhancing energy security through renewed exploration in previously underexplored regions.
