Company commences supply to SNGPL following government approval during extended well testing period.

KARACHI: Mari Energies Limited has commenced natural gas supply from its Shams-1 discovery in Daharki, Sindh, marking a significant development for Pakistan’s domestic energy sector.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, the company announced that gas production from the Shams-1 well has officially started following the receipt of the necessary government approvals.

The company recalled that it had earlier informed the market on March 19, 2026, about a gas and condensate discovery at the Shams-1 well located within the Mari Development and Production Lease (D&PL) area in Daharki, Sindh.

According to the latest disclosure, Mari Energies has begun supplying up to 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of natural gas from the discovery to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) with effect from June 19, 2026.

The gas supply is being made during the Extended Well Testing (EWT) phase, which allows production and supply while further evaluating the reservoir’s performance and commercial potential.

Mari Energies stated that the commencement of gas deliveries follows approval from the relevant authorities and forms part of efforts to enhance indigenous energy production and support the country’s growing gas demand.

The company is the sole operator and holds a 100 percent working interest in the Mari Development and Production Lease, giving it full ownership and operational control over the project.

The start of production from Shams-1 is expected to contribute additional gas volumes to the national transmission network at a time when Pakistan continues to face challenges in meeting energy requirements through domestic resources.

Industry observers view the development as a positive step for the upstream energy sector, highlighting the importance of new discoveries and timely commercialisation in reducing reliance on imported fuels and strengthening the country’s energy security.

The Shams-1 discovery adds to Mari Energies’ portfolio of producing assets and reinforces the company’s position as one of Pakistan’s leading exploration and production firms.
