Karachi, January 8, 2026 — Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, inaugurated a modern ferry terminal at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on Tuesday, calling it a historic step to enhance regional connectivity, promote coastal tourism, and strengthen Pakistan’s blue economy.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister highlighted that the new ferry services, expected to start later this month, reflect his vision of establishing safe, modern, and sustainable maritime passenger transport in Pakistan. “This ferry service is more than just transport—it’s a gateway to tourism, economic growth, and regional trade,” he said, noting that this marked the issuance of Pakistan’s first-ever ferry service license, a milestone for the maritime sector.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry emphasized that the ferry terminal would boost private sector confidence, encouraging investment in maritime infrastructure and related services. He revealed that multiple businessmen had already expressed interest in obtaining licenses to operate ferry services, anticipating a surge in maritime tourism and associated economic opportunities, including employment in hospitality, transport, and allied industries.
The minister also announced plans by Port Qasim Authority to establish a state-of-the-art industrial zone, designed to provide modern infrastructure for investors and support port-led economic growth, exports, and industrial activity.
The inauguration was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, KPT management, and representatives of the shipping and business community. Attendees praised the initiative as a major step toward revitalizing Pakistan’s maritime sector and unlocking the untapped potential of coastal and marine resources, paving the way for enhanced economic development and regional connectivity.
This ferry terminal is expected to become a cornerstone in Pakistan’s efforts to develop a sustainable and thriving blue economy while boosting tourism and trade along the coast.
