Marvel Studios is reportedly in discussions with directors Joe and Anthony Russo to helm two highly anticipated “Avengers” films: the 2026 release, previously titled “The Kang Dynasty,” and the 2027 “Secret Wars.”

According to a US media outlet, these movies will continue the storyline from 2019’s “Endgame” and conclude the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Multiverse Saga.

Though multiple media sources have reported on the potential collaboration, a spokesperson for AGBO, the Russos’ production company, has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors.

The Russo brothers are well-known for their significant contributions to the MCU, having directed both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” Their work on these films brought the MCU to unprecedented heights and resulted in massive box office successes.

“Endgame” is the second-highest-grossing movie in history, earning $2.79 billion, while “Infinity War” ranks sixth with $2.05 billion. The duo joins James Cameron as the only directors with two films surpassing the $2 billion mark.

In addition to their work on the “Avengers” series, the Russos directed “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in 2014 and “Captain America: Civil War” in 2016, both of which were critical and commercial successes.

Post-“Endgame,” the Russos have focused on streaming platforms. They directed Netflix’s “The Gray Man,” starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas, and Apple TV+’s crime drama “Cherry,” featuring Tom Holland. They also produced the acclaimed film “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” as well as Amazon’s TV series “Citadel” and Netflix’s “Extraction.”

The Russo brothers are currently working on their next project, “The Electric State,” a Netflix film starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown.

Meanwhile, Marvel is actively searching for directors to handle their back-to-back blockbuster projects following Destin Daniel Cretton’s departure from “Kang Dynasty” in 2023. The film, which will be renamed, was initially tied to Jonathan Majors, who played the villain Kang. However, Marvel ended their association with Majors following his involvement in a domestic violence incident.

As fans eagerly await official announcements, the potential return of the Russo brothers promises to bring excitement and high expectations for the future of the MCU.
