Matt Damon is fully committed to his latest role as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, The Odyssey.
The 54-year-old actor has undergone an impressive physical transformation for the project, currently being filmed in Favignana, Italy, alongside co-star Zendaya.
A Godly Transformation
Damon, known for his Bourne Identity action roles, has been spotted on set sporting washboard abs and a commanding beard, which he first debuted at the SXSW festival in early March. Dressed in Hellenistic-inspired brown capri pants, he looked every bit the legendary Greek hero.
Filming alongside him was Zendaya, who is set to play Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom. The 27-year-old actress was seen in a flowing cream-colored dress, with her hair styled in an elegant braided bun, embracing the grandeur of Greek mythology. The two actors were captured in an intense scene surrounded by crew members, fully immersed in their roles.
Ben Affleck Praises Damon’s Dedication
Matt Damon’s transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed. His longtime friend and collaborator Ben Affleck recently shared insights into his intense training regimen.
“He’s going off to do this Chris Nolan movie and doing a lot of stunt rehearsal,” Affleck revealed in a March 25 GQ interview. “It’s been a while since he’s had to train like this—this is Bourne Identity-level commitment.”
A Grueling Process
Though he has tackled physically demanding roles before, Damon has previously admitted that extreme fitness training is no easy feat. In a 2017 Total Film interview, he confessed, “Unless it’s your job, spending three hours a day in the gym just sucks.”
Anticipation Builds for ‘The Odyssey’
With Matt Damon’s dedication and Christopher Nolan’s visionary storytelling, The Odyssey is shaping up to be an epic cinematic spectacle. Fans eagerly await its release, as Damon steps into the legendary role of Odysseus in what promises to be one of his most demanding performances yet.
