Megyn Kelly questions Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s parenting of North West

Megyn Kelly has raised concerns about North West’s growing exposure to fashion and music at 13, prompting a wider debate over celebrity parenting.

Megyn Kelly has publicly criticised Kim Kardashian and Kanye West over their approach to raising their 13-year-old daughter, North West, following the teenager’s appearance on the cover of Dazed magazine’s autumn issue.

During Tuesday’s episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly discussed the magazine shoot with Dr Drew, focusing on images that showed North with blue hair, heavy makeup, grills and multiple facial piercings. The shoot was directed by filmmaker Gus Van Sant.

Kelly also raised concerns about North’s increasing involvement in the entertainment industry, including her music career, recently released debut project and plans to perform on stage.

She questioned whether Kardashian and West were moving too quickly to establish their daughter as a celebrity and suggested they may not be fully considering the potential consequences of exposing a teenager to fame at such an early age.

Concerns over North’s growing public profile

Dr Drew echoed Kelly’s concerns, referring to bipolar disorder in North’s family history, apparently alluding to West, although he did not provide evidence linking the teenager to the condition.

He also made claims about Kardashian and West’s availability as parents, saying they “have not been available” and “don’t look like they’re around all the time”.

Dr Drew described North’s development and rapidly expanding public profile as a particularly consequential moment.

The comments come amid a broader debate over North’s increasing presence in fashion and music while still a young teenager.

Commentator Meghan McCain has also questioned the parenting decisions surrounding North’s growing career, although she did not directly name Kardashian or West in her remarks.

North has spoken about parental boundaries

Despite her increasingly public career, North has previously indicated that her parents still impose boundaries on what she can do.

The teenager has spoken about wanting additional piercings but said she has not been allowed to get certain ones, including a bridge piercing.

North’s appearance in Dazed, combined with her music ambitions and growing celebrity profile, has nevertheless renewed discussion over how much freedom young children of famous parents should have to enter the entertainment industry.

The debate also highlights the difficult balance celebrity parents face when their children show an interest in pursuing careers in fashion, music and entertainment.

North is increasingly following in the footsteps of both Kardashian and West, while her parents face renewed scrutiny over how they balance her creative ambitions with the responsibilities of raising a teenager in the public eye.
