Meta Platforms will introduce a new pricing model for its WhatsApp Business platform from Aug. 1, replacing per-message charges with a token-based system for companies using its artificial intelligence-powered business agents.
Under the new structure, businesses using Meta’s AI agents will no longer pay a fixed fee for every message sent. Instead, costs will be calculated based on the computing power and data resources consumed while AI processes customer queries and requests.
The company said the revised pricing model is designed to better reflect the resources required to support AI-driven customer interactions.
Meta also announced that fees for certain categories of WhatsApp Business messages will be reinstated from Oct. 1, 2026. Those charges had been temporarily suspended nearly two years ago.
The changes mean businesses that rely heavily on AI-powered customer service may see their costs fluctuate depending on the complexity of customer conversations, rather than paying a standard rate for every message.
The move comes as Meta continues expanding artificial intelligence tools across its platforms, encouraging businesses to adopt AI-powered assistants for customer support, sales and engagement.
WhatsApp Business has become one of Meta’s key services for commercial messaging, allowing companies to communicate directly with customers through automated and human-assisted conversations.
Meta has not disclosed further details on token pricing rates but said the new system will come into effect on Aug. 1, with additional messaging fee changes following two months later.
