Beyoncé surprised fans on the Fourth of July by releasing a new song, Morning Dew (Donk), marking her first original music in two years and kicking off celebrations ahead of the 20th anniversary of her landmark album B’DAY.

The Grammy-winning singer released the track on Saturday alongside a lyric video featuring archival footage directed by longtime collaborator Cliff Watts.

In a statement announcing the release, Beyoncé’s team described the song as a special gift for fans.

“Beyoncé marks the 4th of July holiday with a special gift to her fans with the release of Morning Dew (Donk),” the statement said.

The release also begins a 60-day countdown to the singer’s birthday and the reissue of B’DAY, her second studio album, which was originally released on Sept. 4, 2006.

According to the statement, Morning Dew (Donk) will be included on the album’s 20th anniversary edition and serves as “a direct nod to her loyal BeyHive.”

Beyoncé co-wrote the song with longtime collaborators Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon.

Fans quickly took to social media to celebrate the surprise release.

“BEYONCÉ I KNOW U DIDN’T JUST DROP THIS,” one fan wrote under the official lyric video, while another commented, “The way my eyes lit up when this notification hit my phone.”

Others described the unexpected release as a holiday surprise, with one fan posting on X: “Beyoncé really blessed us with a random drop on a Saturday.”

Released in 2006, B’DAY debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart after selling more than 541,000 copies in its first week. The album also topped international charts, including Japan’s International Album Chart.

The surprise release marks Beyoncé’s first new song since her recent studio projects and signals the start of celebrations for one of the defining albums of her career.
