Islamabad, October 27, 2025 – In a major step toward digital transformation, Meta, in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, has launched an Urdu version of Artificial Intelligence (AI) interaction for Pakistani users.
The initiative aims to make technology more accessible and inclusive for millions of Urdu speakers nationwide.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) and Meta co-hosted an event titled “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation,” which brought together policymakers, industry experts, and academia to explore opportunities in artificial intelligence and digital innovation across Pakistan.
During the event, Meta announced the expansion of its Meta AI language capabilities, ALIF, enabling users to interact with Meta AI in both English and Urdu. This advancement will help users discover information, communicate effectively, and stay connected in their native language.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja inaugurated the event, emphasizing Pakistan’s progress under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision. She said, “The introduction of ALIF – Urdu for Meta AI is a milestone in making technology inclusive and accessible for all, ensuring no one is left behind in Pakistan’s digital transformation.”
Meta also launched a localized version of the guide “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” developed in partnership with Deloitte and supported by MoITT. The guide highlights how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance government services, streamline operations, and strengthen data sovereignty.
Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, reaffirmed Meta’s commitment to supporting AI-driven growth in Pakistan, while Fizza Amjad, CEO of Atomcamp, emphasized the importance of equipping educators with AI knowledge to create an AI-literate academic ecosystem.
Earlier this year, Meta and the Ministry of IT&T partnered with HEC, NCEAC, and Atomcamp to launch an AI Literacy Programme, training 350 non-Computer Science faculty members to strengthen Pakistan’s AI-ready workforce.
