Mia Goth recently opened up about her unique perspective on Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated film Frankenstein, insisting it should not be labeled as a horror movie.
In an interview with FandomWire, the Pearl actress, who portrays Lady Elizabeth Harlander in the movie, explained that she approaches every project by focusing on its emotional depth and human core rather than its genre.
“I didn’t see it as a horror movie in any way,” Goth revealed. She added that while her performances often carry intense emotions, those moments are “just like life” and do not define the entire story.
Expanding on her viewpoint, Goth argued that labeling films under specific genres can limit their meaning. “To give a genre to any film is kind of reductive in a way. Same with Frankenstein (the novel),” she said. “I think to call it simply a science fiction novel is a really reductive term for it.”
Goth emphasized that del Toro’s Frankenstein is more of a human story exploring emotion, morality, and identity than a typical horror adaptation.
The film features a stellar cast including Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, and Christoph Waltz, alongside Mia Goth.
Frankenstein is currently screening in theaters and will premiere on Netflix on November 7.
