Miley Cyrus sets boundaries after red carpet clash with photographers

Miley Cyrus made a bold statement about respect and personal boundaries after a tense red-carpet moment at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, proving she is not one to be ordered around—especially by someone shouting instructions.

The singer and actress attended the star-studded event on January 3, where she quickly became the center of attention following a brief but highly public exchange with photographers. Cyrus, 33, arrived confidently in an all-black ensemble paired with sunglasses, striking poses as cameras flashed on the red carpet.

In a video later shared by Page Six and widely circulated on social media, Cyrus is seen posing with her sunglasses off before putting them on for another round of photos. At that point, a photographer loudly objected, repeatedly shouting “No! No! No!” prompting audible reactions from others nearby who appeared to want her to pose without the shades.

Rather than ignoring the comments, Cyrus addressed the situation head-on. Calm but firm, she told the photographers, “If you yell at me, I do the opposite.” She went on to explain that she has known many in the industry for decades, adding, “If you tell me not to put the glasses on, I put them on.”

Sharing her own take on reverse psychology, the Flowers singer joked that praise would have worked better. “Just say, ‘Oh, I love the glasses!’ and I’ll take them off,” she said.

After the exchange, Cyrus returned to the step-and-repeat, continuing to pose while holding the sunglasses in her hand. The moment underscored her long-standing comfort with setting boundaries in public spaces.

The evening remained a celebratory one, as Cyrus was honored with the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award for her song Dream as One from Avatar: Fire and Ash. She also attended alongside her mother, Tish Cyrus, with both wearing coordinated all-black looks.
