Government signals possible relief for traders as consultations continue ahead of FY27 budget

Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Bilal Azhar Kayani on Saturday said the government would consider introducing a simplified tax scheme for traders in the upcoming federal budget, as authorities seek to balance revenue collection with business-friendly reforms.

The assurance came during a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Central Organization of Traders led by its President Kashif Chaudhry, where representatives presented proposals aimed at easing regulatory burdens on the retail and wholesale sectors.

According to an official statement, the delegation urged the government to simplify tax procedures, remove administrative hurdles and create a more conducive environment for voluntary tax compliance.

Bilal Azhar Kayani said all suggestions would be reviewed in detail and that the government remained committed to strengthening coordination with stakeholders while maintaining fiscal discipline.

He reiterated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed efforts to address traders’ concerns and improve the overall business climate in the country.

“The government will consider the traders’ demand regarding a simplified tax scheme while finalizing budget proposals,” he said.

The minister also highlighted the role of the trading community in driving economic activity and employment generation, calling it an essential part of Pakistan’s economic structure.

Members of the delegation said ongoing consultations with stakeholders reflected a more collaborative approach to policy formulation ahead of the FY27 budget.

They stressed the need for a simplified tax framework to improve compliance and reduce friction in the taxation system.

Traders also appreciated the government’s engagement efforts and expressed hope that their proposals would be reflected in the upcoming budget measures.
