Commerce minister says institutional reform is the only sustainable path to strengthen governance and enhance public service delivery in the digital age.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has emphasised that reforming and restructuring Pakistan’s governance model is essential to meet the challenges of the digital era and improve the delivery of public services.

In a post shared on X on Saturday, the minister said institutional reform remains the only sustainable way to strengthen governance and enable public institutions to keep pace with rapid technological change.

“Reform and Restructure in the governance model is the only way forward. And its needed more in this new era of digital speed then before.”

Minister revisits 2018 remarks

Jam Kamal Khan accompanied his latest post with one of his earlier messages published on August 5, 2018, in which he expressed concern over governance challenges in Balochistan and called for a more effective and service-oriented provincial administration.

In the 2018 post, he wrote:

“I agree…our governance structure has collapsed in Balochistan and it is not interested in anything. If it would have been a proper service oriented provincial government then all would have been fine. The biggest task first is to make it a fully functional as a public service delivery.”

Governance reform remains a priority

By resharing his earlier remarks, the commerce minister suggested that the need for governance reforms remains as pressing today as it was several years ago.

He indicated that institutional restructuring, improved administrative efficiency and a stronger focus on public service delivery are critical to ensuring that government institutions can effectively respond to the demands of an increasingly digital economy and society.

The minister’s comments come amid broader discussions on modernising Pakistan’s governance framework, accelerating digital transformation and improving the efficiency of public institutions.

His remarks reinforce the view that strengthening institutional capacity and adopting more responsive governance models will be essential to delivering better services to citizens and supporting businesses in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
