Isolated rain and thundershowers likely in several Balochistan districts as monsoon system strengthens; PMD issues flood and landslide warnings.
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-wind and thundershowers at isolated places across Balochistan over the next 48 hours, while hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in most parts of the province.
According to the PMD’s weather outlook issued on Saturday, August 1, 2026, isolated thundershowers are likely in Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Sibi, Loralai, Awaran, Lasbela, Khuzdar and adjoining areas on both Saturday and Sunday.
Balochistan weather forecast
The weather department said hot and humid conditions will prevail across most districts of Balochistan throughout the weekend.
On Saturday, rain-wind and thundershowers are expected at isolated places in Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Sibi, Loralai, Awaran, Lasbela and Khuzdar.
A similar weather pattern is forecast for Sunday, with isolated showers and thunderstorms likely to continue in the same districts and neighbouring areas.
Monsoon system driving rainfall
The PMD said a depression over south Madhya Pradesh, India, is expected to move west-northwest during the next 24 hours.
Under its influence, strong monsoon currents are continuously penetrating eastern and central Pakistan, increasing the likelihood of widespread rainfall across several parts of the country, including northeastern Balochistan.
PMD warns of flooding and landslides
The weather department has warned that heavy rainfall on August 1 and August 2 could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of several cities.
In Sindh, flooding may occur in Tharparkar, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan and Tando Allahyar.
In Punjab, low-lying areas of Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore may experience urban flooding, along with Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Potohar region.
The PMD also warned of possible flooding in Peshawar and Nowshera.
In addition, landslides may occur in vulnerable mountainous areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla and Abbottabad, as well as Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Flash floods are also likely in local streams and hill torrents across Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.
Rain forecast across Pakistan
For Saturday, the PMD has forecast rain-wind and thundershowers in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Kashmir and northeastern Balochistan, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in southeastern Sindh and parts of Punjab.
On Sunday, rainfall activity is expected to continue across Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh and northeastern Balochistan, with heavy to very heavy falls possible at isolated locations.
Rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours
During the previous 24 hours, rain-wind and thundershowers, including scattered heavy to isolated very heavy falls, were recorded in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while hot and humid weather persisted elsewhere in the country.
The highest rainfall totals included Rawalpindi (Katcheri) 95 mm, Murree 85 mm, Rawalpindi Shamsabad 62 mm, Rawalpindi Chaklala 58 mm, Islamabad Zero Point 49 mm, and Dera Ismail Khan Airport 45 mm.
In Sindh, Nagarparkar recorded 23 mm of rainfall, followed by Islamkot 8 mm, Dhali 5 mm, Chachro 4 mm, and Mirpurkhas and Mithi with 1 mm each.
The PMD has advised residents, travellers and local authorities to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures as the ongoing monsoon spell may result in heavy rainfall, flooding and travel disruptions in affected areas.
