World No. 8 Mirra Andreeva delivered a commanding performance at the Adelaide International on Tuesday night, defeating Czech player Marie Bouzkova in straight sets to secure her place in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open warm-up event.
The 18-year-old Russian, seeded third in the tournament, overcame the world No. 45 6-3, 6-1 in just one hour and nine minutes in her opening match after receiving a first-round bye. Despite a slow start, Andreeva quickly asserted her dominance with aggressive baseline play and precise shot-making.
Andreeva’s serve was broken in the opening game, leaving her trailing 3-1 in the first set. However, she responded impressively by winning five consecutive games to close out the set. She carried that momentum into the second set, racing through four straight games and never allowing Bouzkova a chance to recover.
“I’m super happy with the way I played today,” Andreeva said in her on-court interview. “I knew it wouldn’t be an easy match, and I’m just glad I stayed calm and kept playing aggressively.”
The match statistics highlighted Andreeva’s control, as she fired 29 winners while committing 15 unforced errors. Bouzkova, who had battled through a lengthy three-set match in hot conditions the previous day, managed just 10 winners and 16 unforced errors. She also required medical treatment early in the second set.
Elsewhere at the Adelaide International, world No. 18 Liudmila Samsonova suffered a first-round exit, losing 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to Marketa Vondrousova.
In the quarterfinals, Andreeva will face the winner of Wednesday’s all-Australian clash between Maya Joint and Ajla Tomljanovic, while Vondrousova is set to take on Kimberly Birrell in the second round.
