Islamabad, August 3, 2025 – The capital city of Pakistan is currently experiencing the full force of the monsoon season, as heavy rainfall lashed Islamabad and its surrounding areas over the weekend.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued monsoon activity in Islamabad for the next two days, with the potential for isolated heavy downpours.
According to the PMD, weak monsoon currents are entering the upper and central regions of the country, while a westerly wave is influencing weather patterns over northern Pakistan. These systems are expected to intensify rain activity, particularly in Islamabad and nearby regions.
For Sunday, the PMD predicts hot, humid, and partly cloudy weather during the day, with a 55% chance of rain-wind/thundershowers during the night. The forecast for Monday remains similar, with partly cloudy skies and a 60% probability of rainfall, possibly accompanied by isolated heavy showers under monsoon influence.
The synoptic situation reveals that a seasonal low lies over north Balochistan, contributing to the current weather pattern. As the monsoon strengthens, more rain is anticipated in the Potohar region, northeast Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Over the past 24 hours, rain-wind/thundershowers occurred at isolated places including Potohar, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Islamabad recorded notable rainfall: Airport (37mm), Bokra (12mm), Golra (9mm), and Saidpur (2mm), reflecting the monsoon’s grip on the capital.
While many parts of Pakistan remained hot and humid—Dalbandin and Nokundi reached 44°C and 43°C respectively—the ongoing monsoon in Islamabad has provided brief relief from the intense summer heat. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious due to the risk of urban flooding and slippery roads during the monsoon period.
The current weather activity is expected to persist, keeping Islamabad and its residents under the continued influence of the seasonal monsoon.
