Islamabad, September 1, 2025 – The relentless monsoon spell continues to grip Punjab with intense downpours, triggering fears of flash floods, urban inundation, and landslides across multiple districts.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert as heavy rainfall is forecasted to persist for the next two days, bringing with it the risk of significant disruption.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an extended weather warning, emphasizing that Punjab and adjoining regions are likely to witness hazardous weather conditions. According to the advisory, torrential rains from September 1 (evening/night) to September 3 could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas and flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Narowal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, and surrounding areas. In addition, vulnerable hilly zones of Murree, Galliyat, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir are at risk of landslides and road blockages.
Synoptic Situation
Meteorological experts report that monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are converging over the upper and central regions of Pakistan. A westerly wave is further intensifying the weather system, which is expected to remain active until tomorrow.
Weather Forecast
On Monday, widespread rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is expected across Kashmir and northeast Punjab, with scattered rainfall forecasted for Islamabad and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy downpours may result in further waterlogging and disruptions. Similar conditions are likely to prevail on Tuesday, with northeast Punjab again facing intense rainfall.
