Islamabad, July 18, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread monsoon activity in various districts of Sindh over the next 24 hours, with intermittent rain, wind, and thundershowers expected in several parts of the province.
According to the PMD’s latest update issued Friday, Sindh will remain under the influence of moist monsoon currents. Partly cloudy and humid conditions will prevail across most districts of the province. However, isolated rain-wind/thundershowers are likely to occur in Ghotki, Sukkur, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Karachi, Thatta, Matiari, and Shaheed Benazirabad during the evening and night hours. Some areas may also experience isolated heavyfalls during this period.
The monsoon weather pattern is expected to continue into Saturday, with similar conditions prevailing across Sindh. Additional districts such as Dadu, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, and Tando Muhammad Khan are likely to experience rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. The PMD has advised residents and local authorities to stay alert due to the possibility of urban flooding in low-lying areas, especially in Karachi and other coastal zones.
Synoptic Situation:
The current monsoon activity is being fueled by a depression that has moved from southern Uttar Pradesh (India) to northwest Madhya Pradesh and is expected to drift west-northwestward over the next 24 hours. In addition, a seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan, extending eastward. A westerly wave is likely to impact the southern parts of Pakistan, including Sindh, enhancing the potential for rain.
National Forecast:
For Friday, partly cloudy and humid weather is expected nationwide. However, isolated rain-wind/thundershowers may occur in southeastern and upper Sindh, southern and northeastern Punjab, Kashmir, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern/southern Balochistan.
On Saturday, these weather conditions will persist, with monsoon effects seen again in Sindh and other regions of the country.
Weather Summary (Past 24 Hours):
Heavy monsoon showers were recorded in parts of Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The highest rainfall was observed in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, while the highest temperature was recorded in Dalbandin at 44°C.
The PMD continues to monitor the evolving monsoon conditions and urges citizens, especially in Sindh, to take necessary precautions.
