Monsoon rains set to enter Pakistan from June 25, warns PMD

Monsoon Rainfall

Islamabad, June 24, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has officially announced that the monsoon season will begin in Pakistan from June 25, 2025, as moist currents from the Arabian Sea start entering the upper and central regions of the country.

A western weather system is also expected to converge over the northern regions, intensifying rain activity by June 26.

According to the PMD, under the influence of this dual weather system, widespread monsoon rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms are forecasted across multiple provinces of Pakistan over the coming week.

Northern Regions: Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan

Starting from the evening of June 24, Kashmir districts such as Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, and Bhimber will witness frequent rain, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy downpours through July 2. Gilgit-Baltistan, including areas like Skardu, Hunza, and Diamir, is expected to experience similar weather patterns from June 26 to June 29.

Punjab and Islamabad

A significant monsoon spell will affect Punjab and Islamabad from June 25 to July 1. Cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Sargodha may face intense rainfall with occasional heavyfalls that could lead to flash floods in low-lying areas. Southern Punjab districts like Multan and Bahawalpur will also receive rainfall from June 26 to 28.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Most of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, and Kohat, is expected to receive heavy monsoon showers between June 25 and July 1. The intensity may cause flash floods in hilly regions and disrupt daily life due to landslides and road blockages.

Balochistan and Sindh

Rain and thunderstorms are likely in northeastern and southern Balochistan, including Khuzdar, Lasbella, and Sibbi, from June 25 night to June 28. Upper and southeastern Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Tharparkar, are also in line for monsoon rains during the same period.

Potential Hazards

The PMD has issued warnings of flash floods in nullahs and streams in the northern parts of Pakistan, particularly from June 26 to July 1. Urban flooding is likely in metropolitan areas such as Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Landslides may affect travel in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Safety Advisory

Residents are urged to secure fragile infrastructure like billboards and solar panels. Farmers should schedule agricultural activities accordingly, while tourists and travelers are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and avoid unnecessary movement during the active monsoon period in Pakistan.
