Monsoon Rains to Continue in Karachi on July 31: PMD

Islamabad, July 30, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Tuesday that the ongoing monsoon rains in Karachi are expected to continue on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

In its weather forecast for Sindh on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the PMD predicted hot and humid weather for most parts of the province. However, monsoon rains are expected in Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Karachi, Jamshoro, and Dadu.

Nationally, rains and thundershowers are forecasted in Kashmir, Upper and Central Punjab, Islamabad, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Southeast Sindh, and South Balochistan.

The PMD has issued a warning that heavy rains may cause flash flooding in local nullahs and streams in Kashmir, northeast Punjab, Koh Sulaiman, and the adjoining hilly areas of northeast and south Balochistan tonight. Urban flooding may also occur in the low-lying areas of northeast Punjab, Karachi, and lower Sindh during the forecast period.

Regarding the synoptic situation, the PMD reported that monsoon currents are penetrating from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea into the central and southern parts of the country. A trough of a westerly wave is also affecting the northern parts of the country.

For Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the PMD forecasted rains and thundershowers in Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh, and Balochistan, with heavy falls expected at isolated places in Kashmir, Northeast Punjab, South Sindh, and South Balochistan.

During the past 24 hours, rains and thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls, occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Sindh, north and southeastern Balochistan, and Kashmir.
