Monsoon Update: Islamabad Braces for Rainy Friday

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, August 7, 2025 – The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, is gearing up for a wet Friday as the ongoing monsoon system continues to influence weather patterns across the country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms for isolated areas of Islamabad, particularly during the morning and night hours of Friday, August 8, 2025.

For Thursday, Islamabad is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with chances of rain, wind, or thunderstorms in the evening or night. By Friday, the weather in Islamabad will likely remain hot and humid throughout the day, transitioning into partly cloudy conditions with potential rainfall later in the day. This marks the continuation of the active monsoon spell impacting various regions.

At the national level, the PMD reported that a seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan, while moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper parts of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is present over the northern regions, further intensifying the monsoon impact.

On Thursday and Friday, most parts of the country are expected to remain hot and very humid. However, rain and thundershowers are likely in northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and surrounding hilly areas.

Over the past 24 hours, Islamabad received light to moderate rainfall at several locations, including Bokra (19mm), Airport (14mm), Golra (8mm), Saidpur (7mm), and City (5mm), as part of the ongoing monsoon activity. Other regions such as Rawalpindi, Muzaffarabad, and Mandi Bahauddin also recorded significant precipitation.

As the monsoon system gains strength, residents of Islamabad are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and prepare for possible disruptions caused by rain and thunderstorms. This active monsoon phase is expected to continue shaping Islamabad’s weather in the days ahead.
