“Mr. & Mrs. Mahi,” the latest release starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, saw a significant drop in its second-week earnings, bringing its total to INR 33.23 crore.
Despite a promising start, the film struggled to maintain momentum amid stiff competition from “Munjya.”
Directed by Sharan Sharma, “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi” opened to a strong performance in its first week, raking in an impressive INR 24.45 crore. However, the film’s box office journey took a downturn in its second week, grossing only INR 8.81 crore.
The second week kicked off with a low of INR 1.3 crore on Friday, marking a 28 percent drop from the previous day’s earnings. The weekend saw slight improvements, with INR 2.15 crore on Saturday and INR 2 crore on Sunday. The weekdays followed a downward trend: INR 85 lakh on Monday, INR 90 lakh on Tuesday, INR 85 lakh on Wednesday, and INR 76 lakh on Thursday, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.
The competition from “Munjya,” starring Abhay Verma, Sharvari, and Mona Singh, played a significant role in the subdued performance of “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi.” “Munjya” amassed INR 35 crore in its first week, overshadowing the latter’s box office appeal.
Despite this, “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi” marks Rajkummar Rao’s second hit of the year, following the success of “Srikanth.” The actor is already gearing up for his next project, having announced the release of “Stree 2” for August 15. This upcoming sequel has generated considerable buzz among fans, further demonstrating Rao’s versatility and popularity in the industry.
Janhvi Kapoor, who has been gaining recognition for her performances, also adds another notable film to her growing repertoire with “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi.” The film’s initial success and subsequent struggle highlight the unpredictable nature of box office dynamics, particularly when faced with strong competition.
