KARACHI, August 31, 2025 – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed provincial authorities to maintain strict vigilance over embankments and irrigation systems along both banks of the River Indus amid forecasts of a potential flood.
According to a statement from the CM House, Minister for Irrigation Jam Khan Shoro briefed the Chief Minister on the latest hydrological data and precautionary measures in place. The briefing indicated that, as of 12 noon on Saturday, water levels remained high but manageable across key points.
At Guddu Barrage, upstream flow stood at 383,299 cusecs and downstream at 350,943 cusecs. At Sukkur Barrage, upstream was recorded at 313,000 cusecs with downstream at 259,050 cusecs, while Kotri Barrage reported upstream at 264,131 cusecs and downstream at 233,216 cusecs.
The Chief Minister was assured that barrages across Sindh are secure and that all required safety measures have been implemented. He instructed ministers and district administrations to remain deployed in the field, ensuring direct supervision of embankments and flood control mechanisms.
Murad Ali Shah also appealed to residents of low-lying areas and riverbanks across Sindh to fully cooperate with local authorities in case evacuation becomes necessary. “Public safety is our top priority, and timely coordination is essential,” he said.
The ministers assured the Chief Minister that constant monitoring is underway and that response teams are ready to handle any emergency arising from the flood threat.
