NAB recovers 350 acres of prime government land in Karachi worth Rs423.5bn

Accountability

Karachi, February 27, 2026 – In a major breakthrough against illegal land allotment and administrative corruption, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has successfully recovered 350 acres of high-value government land in Karachi, with an estimated market worth of Rs423.5 billion. The reclaimed property, located in the highly sought-after Clifton Block-I and Block-II areas, marks one of the largest land recoveries in Pakistan’s recent history.

Probe Exposes Massive Irregularities

The recovery follows an extensive inquiry and investigation launched by NAB against senior officials of the Land Utilization Department (Government of Sindh), the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and the Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

According to investigation findings, the land — reclaimed from the sea-bed — had been illegally allotted to private parties at nominal prices, in blatant violation of rules and regulations. The unlawful allotments resulted in massive losses to the national exchequer, raising serious concerns over systemic corruption and abuse of authority.

Illegal Allotments Cancelled, Land Restored

During formal proceedings, NAB Karachi ensured the cancellation of all illegal allotments, leading to the complete restoration of the reclaimed land to the Government of Sindh. The handover has been formally acknowledged by the Land Utilization Department, confirming the transfer of ownership back to the provincial government.

Coordinated Action Prevents Historic Loss

The operation was carried out through close coordination between NAB Karachi and the Sindh Board of Revenue, enabling authorities to intervene before the land could be sold or further encumbered. This timely action effectively blocked a massive fraudulent transaction and safeguarded public assets from what could have been a historic financial loss.

NAB Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy on Corruption

NAB reiterated its unwavering commitment to its policy of “Accountability for All”, stressing that efforts will continue to identify, investigate, and prosecute those involved in the systematic misuse of public resources.

The recovery is being hailed as a landmark achievement in Pakistan’s anti-corruption drive, reinforcing the message that illegal land grabs and institutional corruption will not go unpunished.
