Dhaka, March 11, 2026 – A sensational five-wicket spell from Nahid Rana powered Bangladesh national cricket team to a dominant victory over Pakistan national cricket team in the first One-Day International (ODI) at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan in all departments, securing a commanding win to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The hosts comfortably chased a modest target after dismantling Pakistan’s batting lineup earlier in the match.
Nahid Rana’s Fiery Spell Dismantles Pakistan
Bangladesh’s victory was built on a brilliant bowling performance from fast bowler Nahid Rana, who delivered a match-winning spell of 5/24 in seven overs, claiming a wicket in each of his first five overs.
He received strong support from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who picked up three wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with one wicket each.
Pakistan started positively with a 41-run opening partnership, but their innings collapsed quickly after the dismissal of Sahibzada Farhan. Despite a fighting 37 runs from Faheem Ashraf, Pakistan struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 114 runs.
Seven Pakistani batters were dismissed for single-digit scores, highlighting Bangladesh’s bowling dominance.
Bangladesh Chase Target Comfortably
In response, Bangladesh chased the modest total with ease. Although Saif Hassan fell early, opener Tanzid Hasan played a superb innings to guide the hosts to victory.
Tanzid smashed an unbeaten 67 runs, displaying aggressive stroke play across the ground. He shared an 82-run partnership with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who anchored the chase.
Bangladesh reached the target in just over 15 overs, sealing a convincing win.
For Pakistan, captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr managed to take a wicket each, but the total proved far too small to defend.
Player of the Match: Nahid Rana
Fast bowler Nahid Rana was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
Speaking after the match, Rana said it was a special moment for him to perform well in his first international match at Mirpur.
“This was my first international game here, so it feels really special. The wicket offered some help early on, and our plan was to bowl in the right areas and maintain tight lines,” he said.
Captains’ Reactions
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz praised his team’s performance, noting that the side had not played ODI cricket for some time but executed their plans well.
He highlighted Rana’s disciplined bowling and expressed confidence in maintaining momentum for the remaining matches.
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi admitted that his team failed to build partnerships.
“Partnerships are crucial in one-day cricket, both in batting and bowling. We started well but could not capitalize. We will focus on the next game,” Afridi said.
Bangladesh Continue Dominance at Mirpur
The victory also marked Bangladesh’s fourth consecutive ODI win over Pakistan at Mirpur, continuing their strong record at the venue since the famous 2015 ODI whitewash.
The result gives Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, putting them in a strong position ahead of the remaining fixtures.
The second ODI between Bangladesh national cricket team and Pakistan national cricket team will be played on March 13, 2026, at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
