Naomi Watts has shared a humorous and candid story about her daughter Kai’s brutally honest fashion advice — including a moment when Kai critiqued her Met Gala look directly in front of legendary designer Michael Kors.
Appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Watts revealed that fashion is a major topic in their household, especially as Kai’s modeling career continues to gain momentum. “Fashion is a big topic in the household, especially now, and I take serious notes from her, whether solicited or unsolicited,” the actress said.
Recalling a memorable incident from the 2018 Met Gala, Watts explained that she had two stunning dresses to choose from, both designed by Kors. Despite Kai preferring one option, Watts ultimately chose a glamorous ensemble adorned with 9,000 crystals.
However, during a car ride to the event, Kai unexpectedly FaceTimed her — while Michael Kors himself was present. “She said, ‘You wore the wrong dress,’ for him to hear!” Watts laughed. “Anyone with a creative bone in their body is sensitive. We’re artists.”
The Goodnight Mommy star added that Kai’s modeling career is taking off, and she has naturally stepped into the role of “momager.” Speaking on Today with Jenna & Friends in 2025, Watts said Kai was young but ready for the spotlight.
“She’s got her head on, and it was a nice way for her to feel pride about what she’s doing,” Watts shared. “It’s exciting — and much earlier than we anticipated — but for Kai, we felt she was ready.”
