New Zealand pacer earns ICC recognition after leading his team to a memorable Test series victory in England.

New Zealand fast bowler Nathan Smith has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June 2026 following an outstanding performance during the ICC World Test Championship.

The right-arm pacer played a decisive role in New Zealand’s impressive 2-1 Test series triumph over England, emerging as one of the standout performers of the month.

Smith secured the prestigious award ahead of Bangladesh all-rounder Mossadek Hossain and India batter Shubman Gill.

His exceptional consistency with the ball throughout the England tour helped New Zealand achieve a remarkable comeback after losing the opening Test of the series.

The 28-year-old finished as the leading wicket-taker in the three-match series, claiming 16 wickets and earning the Player of the Series award.

His performances were particularly significant as New Zealand entered the series without several frontline fast bowlers due to injuries, placing additional responsibility on Smith to lead the bowling attack.

One of Smith’s most memorable displays came in the first Test at Lord’s. He took three wickets in England’s first innings before producing a career-best spell of 6/70 in the second innings.

The performance also delivered his best match figures in Test cricket, although New Zealand ultimately suffered defeat in that contest.

Despite the opening setback, Smith maintained his impact throughout the series. In the second Test, he contributed with both bat and ball, taking a wicket and scoring a valuable 38 runs that helped New Zealand strengthen its position and level the series.

The deciding Test once again highlighted Smith’s importance to the Black Caps. He claimed 4/91 in England’s first innings, helping New Zealand secure a crucial 82-run lead.

The pacer then added two more wickets in the second innings as the visitors completed a famous 2-1 series victory on English soil.

Smith’s ability to deliver under pressure and lead an inexperienced bowling unit proved vital throughout the tour.

His match-winning contributions not only helped New Zealand secure a landmark Test series success but also earned him the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for June 2026, further cementing his growing reputation in international cricket.
