Pakistan Hockey Federation says selection committee remains active as international coaches provide technical support through advanced performance monitoring.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has strongly denied reports circulating on social media that claimed the federation had dissolved its selection committee and handed over complete player selection authority to the coaching staff.
In an official statement issued on Monday, the PHF described the reports as inaccurate and misleading, emphasizing that the existing selection committee remains fully operational and continues to perform its duties according to established procedures.
The federation reiterated that all decisions regarding player selection for the national team will continue to be based strictly on merit.
The PHF highlighted that significant efforts are underway to modernize the player evaluation process. Under the leadership of PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, an international coaching panel is currently working in Pakistan to assess players using advanced GPS-based performance tracking technology.
The federation noted that the data generated through this system is being utilized to provide objective insights into player performance.
According to the federation, the performance reports prepared by the international experts are being shared with the selection committee to assist in making informed decisions.
However, the final authority for selecting players remains with the committee, which consists of experienced former hockey stars and professionals familiar with the demands of international competition.
The PHF further clarified that the national squad will be announced through its official communication channels after the selection committee reviews all available data and recommendations.
The Professional Development Committee will also contribute to the process by offering its observations and guidance before the final team announcement.
Addressing rumors about the committee’s alleged dissolution, the federation stressed that recent reforms are aimed at strengthening the selection framework rather than reducing the committee’s role.
The introduction of modern assessment tools and expert evaluations is intended to improve transparency and align Pakistan hockey with international best practices.
The PHF spokesperson also clarified that international coaches have not been granted exclusive powers to select players.
Their responsibility is limited to providing technical expertise, performance analysis, and professional recommendations to support the selection committee during the evaluation process.
The federation reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and merit-based selection as Pakistan continues efforts to strengthen its national hockey program and improve competitiveness on the international stage.
