More than Rs1 billion to be invested over three years to develop and scale innovative energy solutions
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has launched its first National Power Sector Innovation Programme to develop practical, scalable solutions to the country’s growing energy challenges and strengthen innovation across the power sector.
The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) said the programme will operate through the Innovation Hub, a dedicated digital platform designed to bring together young talent, researchers, universities, startups, industry representatives and technical experts from across the country.
The initiative aims to establish a national institutional framework for innovation in the power sector by identifying, evaluating, mentoring and supporting promising ideas.
Under the programme, selected innovations will receive technical assistance and undergo pilot implementation before being considered for wider deployment.
More than Rs1 billion allocated
More than Rs1 billion will be allocated over the next three years to support mentorship, technical assistance, pilot projects and the scaling up of successful innovations.
The funding is intended to help promising concepts move beyond the development stage and towards practical applications capable of addressing challenges faced by Pakistan’s power sector.
Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said rapid advances in artificial intelligence, digitalisation, emerging technologies and new business models were transforming the global energy landscape.
He said Pakistan’s power sector needed greater innovation, creative thinking and continuous improvement to respond effectively to emerging challenges.
Innovation Hub to connect young talent
According to Leghari, the programme is not merely a competition but represents the first national institutional framework of its kind for innovation in Pakistan’s power sector.
He said the initiative would create a structured pathway through which promising ideas and research could be developed into practical solutions.
The minister invited young Pakistanis, students, researchers, startups and young professionals to participate by submitting innovative ideas through the Innovation Hub.
Selected proposals will receive support through mentorship, technical assistance and pilot implementation. Innovations that demonstrate successful results could subsequently be considered for deployment on a national scale.
The programme is expected to encourage collaboration between academia, technology developers, industry and the government while creating a pipeline of locally developed solutions for the country’s energy sector.
By providing financial and technical support from the idea stage through to pilot projects and potential national deployment, the initiative aims to contribute to a more efficient, reliable and sustainable power sector in Pakistan.
