The Government of Pakistan has launched National Roaming Services along the Makran Coastal Highway. The initiative, introduced in celebration of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, is a collaborative effort by the Ministry of IT & Telecom, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Universal Service Fund (USF).
The launch ceremony, held at PTA headquarters, marked a key milestone in the country’s drive to improve telecommunications infrastructure in underserved regions.
The National Roaming Services will provide voice and SMS services to residents and travelers along the Makran Coastal Highway, a critical route in Balochistan.
This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring that people in remote areas have access to essential communication services, thereby enhancing their quality of life and fostering economic development.
Shaza Fatima, the Minister of State for IT & Telecom, presided over the ceremony alongside Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rahman, Chairman of PTA, and other key stakeholders, including Muhammad Naveed and Khawar Siddique Khokar, members of the PTA, and Mudassar Naveed, CEO of USF.
Representatives from leading telecom companies Jazz and Ufone were also in attendance, highlighting the collaborative nature of this initiative.
The introduction of these services is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of the people of Balochistan. The availability of telecom services in such remote areas not only represents a technological upgrade but also underscores the government’s dedication to public service.
By providing reliable communication infrastructure, the initiative is expected to play a crucial role in boosting the local economy, supporting tourism, and ensuring that residents along the Makran Coastal Highway remain connected to the rest of the country.
This development is particularly important for the safety and convenience of travelers along this coastal route, as well as for the residents who rely on these services for their daily communication needs. The government’s efforts in enhancing connectivity in Balochistan are seen as a vital step towards inclusive development and national integration.
