Islamabad, June 18, 2025 – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a comprehensive heatwave alert for large parts of Pakistan as intense and prolonged high temperatures are expected to impact multiple regions in the coming days.
The warning, issued through the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), highlights the emergence of a strong high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere that is likely to persist, resulting in severe heatwave conditions. According to the alert, southern Punjab, Sindh, eastern Balochistan, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will be most affected.
Cities at high risk from the heatwave include Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur, and Nawabshah in Sindh; Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur in southern Punjab; Sibi, Nasirabad, Dera Murad Jamali, and Jaffarabad in eastern Balochistan; as well as Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Bannu in KP. These areas are expected to experience daytime temperatures ranging from 46°C to 48°C, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related medical emergencies such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
In response, NDMA has urged the public to take preventive measures. Citizens are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours (11 AM to 4 PM), drink water frequently even if not thirsty, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and use hats or umbrellas when stepping outside. NDMA has especially emphasized never leaving children or old-age individuals unattended in parked vehicles, as this can be fatal in extreme heat conditions.
The NDMA has stated it is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with provincial and local disaster management authorities to ensure a swift response if needed. Emergency services are on high alert, and the public is encouraged to stay updated through official channels such as NDMA, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs).
To receive real-time alerts and safety information during the heatwave, the public is encouraged to download the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application. As the heatwave intensifies, the NDMA reiterates the importance of community awareness, timely information, and precautionary behavior to minimize health risks.
