Islamabad, July 23, 2025 – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent weather alert warning of intense rainfall and powerful winds expected to lash several regions of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the next 12 to 24 hours.
The NDMA has strongly advised the public to stay vigilant and closely monitor weather updates, especially in areas identified as vulnerable. Citizens residing in high-risk zones have been urged to strictly follow instructions issued by the respective provincial and district authorities.
According to the advisory issued by NDMA, heavy downpours accompanied by gusty winds are anticipated across various districts of KP including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Kohat, and Hangu.
In Punjab, intermittent heavy rainfall is forecasted in the coming hours across major urban and rural centers. Affected districts include Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Narowal, Hafizabad, Chiniot, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan. Islamabad is also expected to receive significant rainfall during this period.
The NDMA has highlighted several risks associated with this weather system. These include the possibility of tree falls, billboards collapsing, power outages, damage to weak structures, and increased chances of road accidents due to poor visibility and slippery roads.
To ensure safety, the NDMA has advised people in Punjab and KP to avoid sheltering under trees and near loose structures during windstorms. Additionally, individuals should refrain from unnecessary travel, especially during intense rainfall, and ensure vehicles are parked away from danger zones.
As Punjab faces yet another round of monsoon activity, the NDMA emphasized the importance of community awareness and timely preparedness. It encouraged citizens, especially in flood-prone or low-lying areas of Punjab, to keep emergency contacts handy and to remain in contact with local authorities.
This alert serves as a crucial reminder from the NDMA to the residents of both Punjab and KP to stay proactive, prepared, and cautious as the weather takes a potentially hazardous turn.
