Islamabad, November 28, 2024 – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall across various regions of Pakistan starting today, as a westerly wave is set to impact the western parts of the country.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), this weather system will bring a mix of rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall, affecting both plains and mountainous areas. The alert urges local authorities, emergency responders, and the public to stay vigilant and prepare for potential disruptions.
The weather forecast indicates that:
• Western and upper regions of the country will experience widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms.
• Mountainous areas, particularly in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand and Hazara divisions), are likely to receive snowfall, raising concerns over slippery roads and travel delays.
• The Pothohar region, along with surrounding areas, is expected to witness rain and thunderstorms.
• While Punjab’s plains are forecasted to remain mostly dry, smog and fog conditions will persist, particularly during early mornings and nights, reducing visibility.
The NDMA has advised residents in northern and hilly areas to exercise caution, especially when traveling on slippery roads or through foggy conditions. Farmers have been urged to take proactive measures to protect their crops and livestock from adverse weather impacts.
In smog-affected areas, the public is advised to minimize outdoor exposure, wear protective masks, and ensure proper ventilation indoors to mitigate health risks. Travelers are encouraged to monitor updates and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays and hazards.
This weather alert comes as Pakistan transitions into the winter season, with varying conditions across regions. The NDMA emphasized the importance of preparedness, urging local governments and emergency services to stay on standby to address any emergencies.
The NDMA continues to monitor the situation and will provide timely updates as the weather system progresses. The authority has also requested the public to follow advisories from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and stay informed about changing weather conditions.
