NDMA warns of severe weather across Pakistan in next 24 hours

Monsoon Rainfall

Islamabad, April 3, 2026 – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert for severe weather conditions, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and snowfall across multiple regions over the next 12 to 24 hours.

According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), a strong westerly weather system has entered the country, prompting authorities to urge citizens to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.

Rain, Thunderstorms Expected in Punjab and Islamabad

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds is expected in Islamabad and several cities of Punjab. Areas likely to be affected include Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, and Bahawalpur.

Authorities have warned that windstorms and lightning could disrupt daily life, damage infrastructure, and create hazardous travel conditions.

Snowfall Forecast for Northern Areas

Snowfall is expected in upper regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Key affected areas include Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley.

The NDMA warned that snowfall and continuous rainfall may disrupt travel and increase the risk of landslides in mountainous terrain.

Flood Risk in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Mardan. The risk is expected to persist until April 5, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.

Sindh and Balochistan Also on Alert

Rain with strong winds is also forecast in parts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Tharparkar.

Meanwhile, several districts of Balochistan—including Quetta, Gwadar, Turbat, Khuzdar, and Chaman—are likely to experience windstorms and rain over the same period.

Safety Advisory Issued

The NDMA has directed provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert, warning that strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning could damage weak structures, crops, trees, and power lines.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly areas, drive cautiously on slippery roads, and stay updated through official channels, including the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app.

Tourists planning trips to northern regions are urged to check weather and road conditions before traveling.
