Islamabad, August 21, 2025 – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh alert predicting intense rainfall in Karachi and Hyderabad between August 24 and 28, heightening the threat of urban flooding and related hazards.
According to the forecast, Hyderabad is likely to receive heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning, significantly increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying neighborhoods. Similarly, Karachi is expected to face torrential rain starting Thursday night, which could trigger waterlogging, road closures, and disruptions to essential services.
NDMA has cautioned residents of Karachi and Hyderabad to take proactive safety measures. Citizens are advised to avoid flooded streets, maintain distance from electric poles and exposed wires, and handle electrical appliances with care during the expected spell.
Authorities have also urged households to inspect drainage systems to prevent water accumulation and ensure smooth flow. Families, especially those in vulnerable areas, are encouraged to prepare emergency kits containing drinking water, dry food, torches, batteries, and first aid supplies to cope with potential service interruptions.
The NDMA emphasized that timely preparation could minimize risks associated with monsoon rains. Residents of Karachi and Hyderabad are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and follow instructions from local disaster management teams.
