NEPRA raises electricity tariff by Rs2.37 per unit for November 2026 bills

Consumers of K-Electric and former WAPDA distribution companies will face an additional fuel cost adjustment of Rs2.3673 per unit, while lifeline and prepaid consumers are exempt.

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of Rs2.3673 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in electricity bills for November 2026 under the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) mechanism.

NEPRA notified the decision through SRO 2094(I)/2026, allowing power distribution companies, including K-Electric (KE), to recover the additional fuel costs incurred during September 2026.

According to the notification, the actual fuel charges component for September stood at Rs9.8268 per unit, compared with the reference fuel charges component of Rs7.4596 per unit. This resulted in a positive fuel cost adjustment of Rs2.3673 per kWh.

The adjustment will apply to consumers of ex-WAPDA distribution companies (XWDISCOs) and K-Electric under the federal government’s policy of maintaining uniform fuel cost adjustments across electricity consumers.

NEPRA has directed distribution companies to reflect the additional charges in November 2026 electricity bills. The adjustment will be calculated based on the electricity units consumed by customers during September.

However, the increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) and prepaid electricity consumers who have opted for prepaid tariffs across all consumer categories.

The notification also clarifies that the positive fuel cost adjustment will apply to electricity consumption under the Incremental Consumption Package.

Electricity bills issued before the notification of NEPRA’s decision will have the adjustment incorporated into the subsequent billing month.

The regulator has further directed XWDISCOs and K-Electric to ensure strict compliance with relevant court orders while implementing the adjustment.

The monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism allows NEPRA to revise electricity tariffs in response to variations in fuel prices and generation costs. A positive adjustment increases the amount payable by eligible consumers, while a negative adjustment provides relief.

The latest increase is expected to add to electricity expenses for households and businesses receiving their November 2026 bills.
