Nestlé form joint venture to launch premium beverages

New 50:50 venture, Peranel, will oversee more than 30 water and premium beverage brands across 120 countries

KARACHI: Nestlé Pakistan Limited has informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that its majority shareholder, Nestlé S.A., has entered into an exclusive agreement with Platinum Equity to establish a joint venture aimed at accelerating growth in Nestlé’s global waters and premium beverages business.

According to the notification, the new company, Peranel, will be jointly owned by Nestlé and Platinum Equity under a 50:50 ownership structure. The partnership is intended to create a dedicated business focused exclusively on expanding Nestlé’s portfolio of waters and premium beverages.

The transaction remains subject to employee consultation procedures and regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed during the first half of 2027.

Peranel to manage global premium beverage portfolio

Under the proposed arrangement, Peranel will oversee a portfolio of more than 30 brands marketed in around 120 countries.

The portfolio includes internationally recognised natural mineral water brands such as S.Pellegrino, Source Perrier, and Acqua Panna, alongside premium and functional hydration products, the global Nestlé Pure Life brand, and several leading local water brands.

The new venture will be headquartered in Paris and led by Muriel Lienau, the current Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé’s waters and premium beverages business.

Pakistan operations included in proposed structure

Nestlé Pakistan said its local water business forms part of the global waters and premium beverages segment covered by the proposed transaction.

However, the company clarified that implementation of the arrangement in Pakistan remains subject to the execution of definitive agreements and the completion of all required corporate and regulatory approvals.

At this stage, Nestlé Pakistan intends only to incorporate a local entity as part of the proposed structure. The company said it would make further disclosures to the PSX if any material developments arise that require public announcement.

Strategic focus on premium beverages

The joint venture reflects Nestlé’s broader strategy of strengthening its presence in the premium beverages market through a dedicated business focused on innovation, brand development and international expansion.

By partnering with Platinum Equity, Nestlé aims to sharpen its operational focus and capitalise on growing global demand for premium bottled water and functional hydration products.

For Pakistan, the announcement signals the potential restructuring of Nestlé’s water business, although the company emphasised that the local implementation process remains at an early stage and is contingent upon future approvals and regulatory clearances.
