The latest Toyota Hilux has once again proven its reputation for reliability and strength, earning an impressive five-star safety rating from ANCAP, Australia’s leading vehicle safety authority.
As one of Australia’s best-selling utes, the new Hilux strengthens its position in the market with enhanced safety technologies and improved performance across key crash-test categories.
Despite being based on the previous-generation platform, the refreshed Hilux—with updated exterior and interior styling—delivered consistently ‘Good’ results across all four ANCAP assessment pillars.
These include Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Safety Assist.
According to ANCAP, the 2025 Hilux features a significantly expanded suite of safety equipment.
This includes the addition of a centre airbag designed to prevent head clashes during side impacts, along with upgraded Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) that now performs better in a wider range of emergency situations.
These improvements played a key role in helping the popular ute secure top-tier safety performance.
In detailed scoring, the Toyota Hilux achieved:
84% for Adult Occupant Protection
89% for Child Occupant Protection
82% for Vulnerable Road User Protection
82% for Safety Assist Technologies
These scores reflect a well-balanced safety profile suitable for families, fleet buyers, and commercial users alike.
However, ANCAP noted that this rating excludes the Rugged X variant, which remains unrated at this stage.
While the Hilux performed strongly overall, ANCAP highlighted a few areas that could be improved.
The ute received a Marginal rating for driver neck protection in the full-width frontal crash test and an Adequate rating for chest protection during the oblique pole test.
Additionally, the Hilux was penalized the full eight points for vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility in the frontal offset test, with its structure presenting a higher risk to occupants of smaller or oncoming vehicles.
Even with these deductions, the Hilux’s reinforced safety package and consistent performance underscore Toyota’s commitment to delivering safer, more dependable utility vehicles.
The five-star rating ensures the Hilux continues to stand out in Australia’s competitive ute segment, offering buyers greater peace of mind backed by independent crash-test validation.
