Hamilton, March 17, 2026 – New Zealand produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat South Africa by 68 runs in the second T20I, leveling the five-match series 1-1 in Hamilton.

Batting first on a tricky surface, New Zealand posted a competitive total of 175, thanks largely to a composed knock from Devon Conway. The left-hander anchored the innings with a crucial 60 off 49 balls, holding the innings together as conditions made stroke play difficult. A late flourish from Josh Clarkson, including 24 runs in the final over, significantly boosted the total and shifted momentum in the hosts’ favor.

In response, South Africa struggled from the outset. The visitors lost early wickets inside the powerplay and were reduced to 31/3, with the pitch offering uneven bounce and grip. Despite a brief resistance from George Linde, who scored a quick 33, the Proteas failed to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for just 107 runs.

New Zealand’s bowlers maintained tight control throughout, with disciplined line and length making scoring difficult. The middle order collapse proved costly for South Africa, as they lost wickets regularly and failed to recover from early setbacks.

Speaking after the match, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner praised his team’s bowling effort and Conway’s innings, calling it a “complete performance.” South Africa skipper Keshav Maharaj admitted his side fell short and would need to regroup ahead of the next match.

With the series now evenly poised, both teams will head to Auckland for the third T20I at Eden Park on March 20.
